Practical Task - Virtual Tour of The British Museum

This week we had to choose an artifact to draw. I chose a head statue (below was the reference I used in the task)

Marble head from the statue of Emperor Commodus

Firstly, I used straight lines to mark the rough contour, then drew the details with curves, during the process I felt that the beard and hair took me the most of time, since it was impossible to draw all the details so I had to simplified it. According to the direction of light, I found left side had stronger contrast which meant there were more details compared to the right side. Thus I used higher density of curves on the left sides and also more dark tone.

Process and Outcome

After the feedback session I made some adjustment, in the previous version I didn't pay attention to the edge of the beard so it looked blurred, so I add more details on it and also enhanced the contrast .Also the sizes and distances of nose, eyes and mouth looked a bit weired, thus I corrected them as well.
