Backyard Slice-Project Summary

In this week I focused on making the scene look better, adjusting  the lighting, making water material as well as using vertex painting on the ground (not sure the reason but I supposed it might because my ground only have four vertexs so the painting result didn't look ideal)

And I found a problem was that I had over 20000tris in total which far exceeded the limited amount.

Thus I started to delete some details and unnecessary polygons as possible as I could. Below was the final result. Sadly that the total tris still over 10000 because I found that I couldn't remove more item or it would look empty.

Above all, I think one of the thing I could do better is the space planning, I think I should make a smaller space so that the assets can look tight together instead of having a lot of vacancy. Besides, I should use lower poly during modeling and maybe using baking method more to solve this problem.

I feel that I have learned a lot of new things during the project, and one of the thing I think is really powerful would be using material instances in Unreal  to create more different material in a quick way.

I think I have improved a lot by using Substance Designer. It quite happy that I can now create many materials without relying on many Youtube tutorials. Besides, I feel that since I've learn many useful tips in this semester so that I can unwrap the uv maps better compare to last year!
